JPG is the most common format for photos, and most upload forms expect it. The tool resizes a JPG toward 20KB while keeping it sharp enough for documents and profiles.
JPEG and JPG are the same format, just spelled differently. Both are fully supported, and the result downloads as a JPEG.
PNG files can be larger because they store every pixel. To reach the 20KB target, the tool may need to apply stronger optimization or change dimensions — and, if needed, it will save the result as WebP to preserve transparency. Any format change is clearly shown before you download.
WebP already compresses well, so a WebP input often needs only a quality or dimension adjustment to land at or below the 20KB target.
